Women Empowerment
The House of Charity Women Empowerment Program provides job skills to refugee/immigrant women in
Harris County. Each year the Women Empowerment Program delivers professional development
trainings to 100 refugee/immigrant women. The goal is to prepare them to obtain the Child
Development Associate (CDA) credential so they can work as childcare educators.
Refugee/immigrant women in Harris County come mainly from under-developed countries. They come
from living in small-rural communities to live in the fourth largest city in the USA. The majority of these
women has never worked outside their homes or family farms. Some of them have been victims of
violent crimes or have witnessed severed abuses. They are not prepared to seek employment in the
USA. Their dream of becoming self sufficient seems to be out of reach.
The Child Development Associate (CDA) credential is a national credential that standardizes the basic
requirements for child care providers. It qualifies people to work in early childhood education in child
care centers or home care settings. The House of Charity Women Empowerment Program is designed
to facilitate the process of obtaining a CDA credential for refugee/immigrant women by providing the
CDA class instruction, all necessary class materials, and a scholarship to pay for the CDA application
fee.

The House of Charity Women Empowerment Program increases the job skills and employment
